Parkatêjê heritage language: a reflection in the context of Indigenous School Education

The Brazilian Constitution of 1988 promoted the rights of indigenous peoples, including bilingual, intercultural, specific and differentiated formal education. In this context, the actions in favor of indigenous languages preservation aim to insert them as First Language or as First and Second Language in pedagogical environments. This paper argues that these languages should be interpreted as a Heritage Language in the indigenous school. A discussion is presented on the history of the implantation of the indigenous school in the Parkatêjê village, based on some notes on the Heritage Language that can contribute to the formal teaching/learning of the Parkatêjê based on respect for the place of the speakers of that language, in the interrelationship between language, culture, identity. In methodological terms, this paper is configured as a qualitative bibliographical research.
