Resumo: A few studies attribute the origin of ni to the contact between African languages and Portuguese; however we understand that this connective is a result of morphological regularization of the preposition em ‘in’. Societal data and the analysis of repair operations show that the ni variant is used regularly by university students of the sample without carrying social stigma, showing subjective convergence in accommodative processes.
