Resumo: The present study aimed to analyse the meanings of the matrix support practice produced by Primary Health Care workers. A qualitative research based on a social constructionist perspective was carried out. Three focus groups were analysed by the production of everyday meanings theory. In the first moment, focus groups were held with workers from an ESF (Family Health Strategy) and NASF (Expanded Family Health Center) team separately. Subsequently, in the second moment, a focus group was held with both teams jointly. The focus groups were audio-recorded, transcribed, systematized, and later analysed. Three thematic axes were built: Matrix Support Definitions, Education on Matrix Support and Work Processes. The results presented the meanings of “sharing” or “passing” cases; The insufficient training or difficulties to recognize the theoretical and pedagogical dimension of matrix support; as well as the stalemates in the work processes and solutions for Matrix Support. The importance of providing spaces for the ESF and NASF teams to discuss the work process in a reflective and critical way is highlighted. Matrix support is a rich tool for the practice of expanded clinics to become more effective.
