Resumo: | Access to higher education in Brazil has always been restricted to a privileged minority. Since the year 2004, the federal and state governments intensified the process of interiorization of higher education. Such planning and implementation process contains failures and violations, but also achievements and development in the cities contemplated. We intend to understand the unfolding of such access in the life of the communities served through the narratives of students of the course of Social Service, (the students were all women), of the city of Palmares, State of Pernambuco, Brazil. We used semi-structured interviews with six subjects using the perspective of ethnobiography. The scarcity of physical and human structure precarizes the education in the region, but there is an indisputable transformation of the population served because of the impact of the public university and access to free higher education. |
