Social work, popular education and health: elements of debate on the educational character of professional work

Resumo: This article addresses the perspectives and potentialities of the dialogue between popular education and the professional work of social workers in health policy. In order to undertake the analysis, based on historical materialism, a bibliographic research was carried out, where documentary data were also intercrossed regarding the work of social workers in SUS. After a brief historical-analytical review of the dialogue between the Brazilian social service, popular education and health, there are central challenges in the development of the educational character of the work of the social worker in health policy at the same time. Concluding with the need to strengthen popular education within the Brazilian social service in antagonism to the neoconservative perspectives in dispute in the profession.

Para empreender a análise, fundamentando-se no materialismo-histórico, realizou-se uma pesquisa de cunho bibliográfico, a qual também se intercruzou dados documentais a respeito do trabalho dos/as assistentes sociais no Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). Apresenta-se, após um breve resgate histórico-analítico da interlocução entre o Serviço Social brasileiro, educação popular e saúde, desafios centrais no desenvolvimento do caráter educativo do trabalho do/a assistente social na política de saúde contemporaneamente.
