This text reports the experience of a research carried out in 2015 at the Assentamento Boa Esperança, located in the municipality of Alto Rio Novo, State of Espírito Santo, Brazil. The study aimed to understand how the production of knowledge takes place in the self-organization that follows as an educational process through knowledge and actions that permeate the daily lives of peasant families. Through a qualitative research with a dialectical approach, three family units were investigated and, from the analysis of the collected information, it was found that the processes of self-organization influence the ways how each family produces its sustenance and contributes to a humanistic formation of the involved people. The voices of the researched subjects showed that self-organization represents a possibility of non- school education, as it favors the propagation and production of knowledge experienced in practice.
