Resumo: This article discusses the links between cinema and history in 1970’s Brazil by analyzing the film Aleluia, Gretchen! (1976), directed by Sylvio Back. We focus on the power relations between Repo, a black servant, and Frau Lotte, his mistress. We establish a connection between the film and a few issues that were at the core of the cultural and political debates of its time, specifically the authoritarianism of the military government and its National Cultural Policy (Política Nacional de Cultura - PNC). Keywords: cinema and history; Brazilian cinema; Sylvio Back.

(1976), dirigido por Sylvio Back.
