Resumo: | This article approaches the challenges of writing the history of Chinese martial arts and of its global dissemination in Brazil. Rather than approaching its practical and methodological difficulties, it focuses on epistemological matters concerning the potential readers and the motivations for these studies. It claims that this subject should be approached in the frontier between the academic and the non-academic through links and dialogues between martial arts practitioners and methodologically “distant” professional analysts, since it deals with a topic which entails both embodiment of cultures and history of the present. It encourages the investigation of “the martial arts themselves” and not only of their institutions, communities, and self-representational discourses. |
