This article delves into some of the ways in which the Portuguese language book markets were explored by one of the publishing clans that most influenced the field of publishing in Portugal between the end of the 19th century and the end of the 20th century: the Torres. On the basis of the case of Romano Torres, a publishing house established in Lisbon between 1886 and 1990 and dedicated to the publishing of books for mass consumption, analytical attention is paid to the relationship between this publishing house and the spaces of print culture circulation in Portuguese-speaking communities outside Portugal and how its activity was shaped by political, publishing and economic dynamics that affected its relationship with this heterogeneous geographical and social constellation: including Brazil, the former Portuguese colonies in Africa, and the Portuguese diaspora.
