Resumo: | João de Jesus Paes Loureiro’s is one of the most representative artistic and theoretical works from contemporary Amazon. This is where is situated his work as a playwright, still virtually unknown as an object of analysis. This text aims at analyzing it. We will see that the Amazon is at the heart of his theater, especially in aspects associated with its imaginary and history, but you will also notice various dialogues with other sources –mainly the Greek one–, with theoretical contributions in general, and theater theory in particular. These elements intertwine to make up a dramaturgy based on conception in which Amazon’s real and imaginary dimensions interact and provide a representation of this region that can be seen as an allegory, as criticism, and, above all, as an Amazon which image is shown as transfigured. Keywords: João de Jesus Paes Loureiro; Amazon; Amazonian theater. |

The transfigured Amazon João de Jesus Paes Loureiro’s theatreA Amazônia transfigurada no teatro de João de Jesus Paes LureiroJoão de Jesus Paes Loureiro’s is one of the most representative artistic and theoretical works from contemporary Amazon.
