Resumo: | Using the concept of texture by Rao, Shulman and Subrahmanyam as a starting point, and what Vieira established regarding the beginnings of epic poetry in Rome as texts of an eminently historiographical character, this paper aims at observing how Lucan’s Civil War is closer to a Roman history narrative, based on what Laird calls “rhetoric of Roman historiography” than to the Vergilian epic, usually considered the example of the genre. To do so, we analyse excerpts of Lucan’s poem in contrast with others by Pliny the Elder, Livy and Velleius. With this paper, we hope to provide an example that works in genres understood as eminently fictional, such as the epic, can be considered historiographical by other societies. |
