This paper analyzes the transformations in Vila Cearense, located in the city of Araguaína-TO, due to the settlement. Our purpose was to understand the process of change through the action of man in nature. The transformations of the landscape – “as was” (considering an indefinite time of the “then”) and “as is” (durative present), referring to the perception of the space lived through reports of the residents of Vila Cearense. Our view is guided by the bias of oral narratives, which are analyzed based on discursive semiotics, in their reflections on space, in what we consider to be a possible approximation to cultural geography. In this sense, we set out an interdisciplinary discussion for a dynamic and historical reflection whit the focus on the inhabited place.
