The erosion process is one of the most harmful causes of environmental degradation. A diagnosis of the erosion potential of a region can help in understanding the mechanisms that act in natural and anthropized areas, making it possible to guide the activities to be developed. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the risks arising from the natural susceptibility to erosion in the hydrographic basin of the Jaboatão-PE river. For this, the methodology of mapping and analysis of natural susceptibility to soil loss was used, which is based on the concepts of environmental stability and instability. An evaluation of the existing balance between morphogenesis/pedogenesis processes was carried out through landscape attributes: pedology, geology, slope, vegetation cover and rainfall intensity, using geoprocessing tools. Finally, field work was carried out to analyze the risks arising from the erosive processes present in the basin. It was possible to verify that in 70% of the area the moderately stable/susceptible erosion class predominates, and the basin has a significant number of sites with buildings in areas conducive to gravitational mass movements, with a high natural degree of susceptibility, thus demonstrating the need for conservation measures to reduce risks.
