PUBLIC SPACES LEISURE IN CITIES: CREATION OF PUBLIC SPACES IN THE CITY OF TERESINA-PI, IN THE PERIOD BETWEEN 2014 AND 2019

This article has as its theme the public spaces of leisure and the quality of life in cities. The general objective was to analyze the creation of these spaces in Teresina-PI between 2014-2019. The specific objectives were: to discuss the importance of these spaces for the quality of life in cities, analyze the legislation on the subject and map the public spaces that emerged in this interval by zone. The methodology was bibliographic research and data collection with planning agencies to identify spaces and locate them through mapping with the help of QGIS Desktop 3.10 software. As a result, it was found that the current urban legislation points to the use of environmental preservation areas for leisure. A total of 108 spaces were implemented in the researched period, which represented a growth of 22% compared to 2013. The greatest area with the implementation was to the East and the most spaces that appeared were gyms and squares. It is concluded that there is an increase in spaces. On the other hand, it is evident that there is still a lack of these spaces in the city of Teresina-PI, which deserves attention from the management agencies.
