STUDIES OF PALEOVALLEYS IN KARSTIC AREAS: REVIEW AND POSSIBILITIES

The karst presents regions of connections between the fluvial and karstic systems the fluviokarst, having typical features, such as dry valleys. Such features have been studied in different ways to contribute to the understanding of the geomorphological dynamics of karst. This study aims to review dry valleys in karst systems, in order to observe the scientific potential of these areas for different applications. The review used the Web Of Science platform (all bases) as the main form of search, covering the period between 1945-2020, which addressed these features, using the following keywords: karstic valley, dry valleys, blind valley, relict valley, ancient valley, fossil valley, solution valley, paleovalley and paleokarst valley, resulting in twenty-seven studies, with several proposals for analysis, highlighting the factors involved in fluviocartic dynamics. The survey shows that there are few studies considering the extent of occurrence of carbonate rocks in the world, with a concentration of research on the European continent. In Brazil, despite having carbonate regions and the various areas mapped with the occurrence of caves, mainly in the cerrado biome, there is no research on the topic, even if they make it possible to identify the factors that influence the evolution of fluviocartic systems.
