Resumo: The use of natural assets or resources by traditional peoples and communities have some common characteristics, due to specific ways of life, marked by intense symbiosis and relative harmony with the environment in which they live, developing techniques of low environmental impact, low articulation with the market, intense knowledge of the surrounding biodiversity and production method based on family labor. At present, the discussion about the use of these resources has acquired great relevance because of their excessive use. Driven by debate and mobilization around the importance of traditional peoples and communities in the management and protection of natural resources, the State promotes public policies that recognize and highlight the role of traditional communities in the right to exploit the forest, as well as in the protection of natural resources in general. In that regard, this paper has the purpose of presenting updated data on the potential for sustainable management in protected areas used by communities in the Amazon, to ensure the sustainable use of biodiversity and the maintenance of traditional peoples and populations that live in the Brazilian territory.
