Resumo: Objective: To verify the influence of the municipal human development index (HDI-M) and structural social capital on maternal mortality in Pernambuco. Method: Georeferencing analysis of maternal deaths that occurred in Pernambuco between 2010 and 2020, and their correlation with HDI-M and Structural Social Capital (represented by non-profit foundations and associations - FASFIL), through global and local Moran spatial statistical analysis (univariate and bivariate). Secondary data from ministerial Health Information Systems (SIM and SINASC) and public data from IBGE and IPEA were employed. GeoDa 1.18 and QGIS version 3.22.5 software were utilized. Results: The results revealed 898 maternal deaths and a Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) of 59.3/100,000 live births during the specified period. Spatial dependence was demonstrated through univariate Moran mirroring, revealing a distribution pattern. In the bivariate Moran analysis, an inverse correlation was observed between MMR and HDI-M (Moran I = -0,063, p-value = 0,035) and MMR and FASFIL (Moran I = -0,085, p-value = 0,009), both with significant p-values. Conclusion: Regions with elevated risks of maternal death exhibit lower levels of human development and reduced structural social capital. These municipalities represent priority areas for interventions aimed at reducing maternal deaths and increasing socioeconomic investments.
