Resumo: Falls are an important public health problem due to their high incidence and the outcomes they can cause. As well as falls, cases of Diabetes have increased worldwide in recent years, with diabetic patients being more susceptible to these events. The objective of this study is to assess the risk of falls in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. This is a cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, carried out from August 2021 to June 2022, with 373 diabetic patients. A questionnaire was used to characterize sociodemographic and clinical aspects, and the Downton Falls Scale was used to assess the risk of falls. Descriptive and inferential analyzes were performed. The results showed that 53.6% of diabetic patients reported falls after the diagnosis of diabetes and 89% were at high risk of falls. It was concluded that most patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus are at high risk of falls, and sociodemographic aspects were significant in terms of the occurrence of previous falls. Necessity for greater attention should be given in the care of diabetic patients with regard to the risk and prevention of falls is highlighted.
