From neoliberalism to developmentalism: an analysis of the economic policies in Brazil from the 1990s to the 2000s

Resumo: The article presents a brief initial figuration of the economic policies adopted by the Brazilian governments between the last decade of the 20th century and the first decade of the 21st century. It explores the hypothesis that the adoption of developmental economic policies provided the link between economic growth and the creation of conditions for social inclusion. Contrasting the period marked by the adoption of neoliberal economic policies – Collor and Fernando Henrique governments – and the period marked by the adoption of developmental policies – Lula governments – presents the results on economic growth, job creation, income distribution etc. as possible indications of the effectiveness of these policies for the aforementioned articulation.
