The substations are responsible for transforming the voltage levels of the electrical network, leaving it at a safe level and that can be used in industrial residences. In areas with very high load density, such as in large residential and commercial centers, it is necessary to use underground substations instead of aerial ones. Among the great advantages of these in relation to the aerial substations we have: protection against storms and natural phenomena, resulting in lower costs with maintenance; best use of the environment where the Underground Substation is installed; better integration of the environment, since there is no need to prune trees. This undergraduate thesis will address fundamental aspects of substations, their equipment, arrangements, sizing and the main advantages of underground substations in relation to the aerial.
