Resumo: | Combined hormonal contraception, most often, contains the combination of two hormones, estrogen and progesterone. Ethinylestradiol is the most widely used estrogen and levonorgestrel can be used in the case of progesterone. Prolonged use of oral contraceptives has been linked to tumor induction in the liver, cervix and breast. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the toxic and carcinogenic potential of the association of ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel through the Epithelial Tumor Detection Test (ETC) in Drosophila melanogaster. Therefore, third - instar larvae from the cross between mwh / mwh and virgin females of the wts / TM3 strain, Sb1, were treated with different concentrations of the association, respectively, between ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel (C1 - 0.000328125 / 0.001640625 mg/mL, C2 - 0.00065625 / 0.00328125 mg/mL, C3 - 0.0013125 / 0.0065625 mg/mL, C4 - 0.002625 / 0.013125 mg / mL, C5-0.00525 / 0.02625 mg/mL, C6 - 0.055 / 0.0525 mg/mL, C7 - 0.01 / 0.105 mg/mL and C8 - 0.02 / 0.21 mg/mL). According to the experimental conditions used, it can be concluded that the highest concentrations are toxic and the concentrations analyzed (C1, C3 and C5) have significantly increased the number of epithelial tumors. Further studies on the correlation between exposure to the above hormones and the induction of cancer are necessary to ensure the safety of use of these hormones by the population. |

Further studies on the correlation between exposure to the above hormones and the induction of cancer are necessary to ensure the safety of use of these hormones by the population.
