Resumo: The nursing workload in specialized units, such as kidney transplant units, is a crucial issue for the quality of care and the health of both professionals and patients. This study aimed to evaluate the nursing workload in a kidney transplant unit of a highly complex university hospital, between 2013 and 2021. This is a descriptive, analytical, quantitative and longitudinal research, using records about the nursing workload in the unit. The data were analyzed in relation to the type of care, year of evaluation and medical specialty. The results indicated that the majority of patients received minimal care, followed by intermediate care. There were variations in the distribution of types of care over the years and between different medical specialties. The most prevalent area of care was skin-mucosal integrity, followed by dressings and dressing time. The results highlight the importance of a specific and careful approach by the nursing team to meet the needs of kidney transplant patients, thus ensuring the quality of care and patient safety.
