This work recognize that the main issue of the XXI century is to ally the social and economic development with conservation and regeneration of the ecosystems that support the life on planet. To that end is necessary a theoretical and methodological framework that is able to guide the initiatives in this path. For this purpose, arises the Regenerative Development and Design, a method that aims to develop communities meanwhile foster the health of them and of the ecosystems in which they belong as well as design buildings that produce more energy than consumes. This is a proposal with an inherent paradigm shift that follows the advance of the systemic science. Therefore, this work is a bibliographic review of the regenerative development and design and is divided in two parts. The first one deals with the epistemological basis and the second one is about the conceptual and methodological frameworks. This theory is capable of guide the team of designers so they can create solutions that arises from the uniqueness of the place and reconcile the human aspiration with the inherent vocation of the local systems. Despite the challenges, the regenerative approach for the development is a promising option to deal with the environmental and social problems of the XXI century.
