Efeitos do uso de progestágenos no útero de gatas: resultados parciais

The increase in the number of stray animals provides the transmission of zoonoses and sets public health at risk, in addition to harming the well-being of these animals. Contraception becomes an essential measure for population control of these animals and the search for less costly methods has been a challenge. The administration of progestagens has been widely used because of have low cost, it has easy acquisition and practical administration. However, incorrect administration of this contraceptive can trigger the development of serious reproductive problems. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to know the profile of the tutor who uses progestogen in their animals and to evaluate the effects of this drug on the uterus of queens, through vaginal cytology, endometrial cytology, macroscopic analysis of the uterus, and uterine histopathology of these animals. According to the results obtained, it was possible to observe that 60% of the uteri of females from G1 presented hyperemia, while those from G2 presented hyperemia; the animals from G1 had a greater number of uteri with purulent exudate (40%) than those from G2 (10%). The same proportionality was observed in relation to the data obtained in the analysis regarding wall thickening and the presence of endometrial cysts. It was also possible to observe that 90% of the animals that used contraceptives were in diestrus/anestrus, and 80% of the cats that never used the drug were also in this phase. Endometrial cytology analysis revealed similar numbers of neutrophils in both groups, and histological evaluation revealed that the greatest alterations in the uterine epithelium occurred in females that received progestogens. It was concluded that the use of progestagens causes important changes in the uterus of queens, favoring the development of uterine pathologies.
