Prevalência de baixo peso ao nascer no período de 2012 a 2016, na cidade de Uberlândia, Minas Gerais

Low birth weight (LBW) is defined by the world health organization as the weight below 2500g and is considered a global public health problem. Insufficient weight in the neonate has been considered one of those caused by premature birth and/or delay in fetal intrauterine development. The association of socioeconomic factors, lifestyle and pre-existing morbidity may also be related to poor fetal development. Low birth weight may be considered a leading cause of death and may be related to physiological and mental problems in childhood and adulthood. In this study, we verified the prevalence of LBW in the city of Uberlândia-MG for the years 2012 to 2016. The data collected came from SINASC and medical records of the Clinical Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia (HC-UFU). Our study showed that the prevalence of LBW in the city of Uberlândia-MG was 9.61%; it could be related to the age of fewer than 20 years and/or more than 35 years, the Civil Status (divorced or widowed) of schooling, and without prenatal consultation; the female gender and race for newborns and the consumption of drugs and maternal diseases (DHEG and UTI).
