Resumo: This study aimed to observe the impacts that are caused in young adults in the age group between 20 and 24 years of age inserted in the Centers of Psychosocial Attention – CAPS of Uberlândia. It is a qualitative research of phenomenological character, the data collection was done from a script of semi-structured interview that sought to understand the young person's perception about the mental disorder and the impact of this in his life. The interviews were carried out in the CAPS of Uberlândia, were recorded and later transcribed. The patients were indicated by the CAPS professionals. Inclusion criteria were between 20 and 24 years old, being followed up between two months to one year, with normal cognitive functions and who accepted to participate in the study and who attended the CAPS during the collection period. The analysis was conducted by Giorgi (1985). The data were discussed according to Erik Erikson's Psychosocial Development Theory (1972). They were categorized according to: "Construction of identity: the psychosocial self"; "Young Adult - Work, Overload, Stress"; "The Impact of Stress on the Life of Young Adult: The Outbreak"; "The Impact of Drug Treatment: Impotence"; "Identity (Re) built". The results show that young adults interviewed perceive that stress and work / family-related overload have contributed to psychic illness. The impact of illness is related to drug treatment because it generates a feeling of impotence in relation to everyday tasks. It is incumbent upon professionals in the field to understand that drug treatment may be an obstacle to the continuity of treatment and social reintegration of the young adult, and that it is therefore imperative to invest in a unique therapeutic project (PTS) that does not paralyze dreams and projects of each young person's happiness.
