In recent years, work-related accidents have become growing study subject by researchers, since they bring significant social and financial harm not only to workers and employers, but also to society as a whole, reason why it is such an important public health problem. Knowing the impact of work on health is essential for obtaining reliable information that helps in the formulation of public policies aimed at worker health. The Ministry of Health, based on the National Policy on Occupational Health, instituted compulsory notification of serious work accidents by means of a specific form systematized by the Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação - SINAN. However, underreporting is a reality in several published studies, which makes it difficult to collect reliable data. From this logic, the Compulsory Notification of Serious Occupational Accidents becomes an essential tool for the knowledge of reality. The purpose of this study was to assess the underreporting of ATG's in Uberlândia and related factors, from the perspective of the notifying professionals of the notifying units of the municipal SUS network. For this purpose, two techniques were used: documentary research and field research, the latter of which contemplated the application of a questionnaire to health professionals from the SUS network responsible for completing the compulsory notification sheets in nine Units Notifiers. It was concluded that in the Municipality of Uberlândia (MG) the underreporting of serious work accidents is due to the absence of epidemiological nuclei in all the reporting units; the lack of awareness among the notifying professionals of their importance in the surveillance process; the implementation of networking in SUS units; the consolidation of interinstitutional strategies between INSS and CEREST.
