A cobertura da tragédia de Suzano: entre humanização e sensacionalismo

This work aims at comprehending the concepts of sensationalism and humanization, drawing a possible boundary between both of them and understanding how they were used in the journalistic coverage of the TV news Panorama, aired on Cultura, and Brasil Urgente, aired on Bandeirantes, about the tragedy of Professor Raul Brasil state school, that happened in the city of Suzano, this year. The methodology used was based in Rose’s (2002) audio-visual method of analysis of videos, starting from a comparison between both coverages made by the two TV channels, in order to evidence sensationalism and humanization. The result showed that there is a tenuous boundary detaching sensationalism and humanization. Such aspects became clear when the analysis showed the content of some questions that were made by reporters, the opinion in the speech of the presenters and in the angulation of an image about a particular person or event. The final considerations of this work demonstrate that Brasil Urgente culturally uses sensationalism in the way they produce journalism, while Panorama, despite going against these kind of behaviour on TV news, with a humanized narrative, presented sensationalism traits in its text as well as in some images.
