Resumo: Nuclear magnetic resonance is an analytical technique, based on the absorption and reissue of electromagnetic waves, which has wide use in several sectors, such as medical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, food and even oil research. In the chemical industry, NMR has become an essential technique, since it presents a wide application with good cost-benefit, allowing to quantify and characterize molecules, to identify compounds, to evaluate fatty acids of biofuels, yield of reactions, in others. This revision intends to introduce theoretical bases of magnetic reso-nance and present its historical evolution, correlating with the evolution of its applications.

Na indústria química a RNM tornou-se uma técnica essencial, pois apre-senta ampla aplicação com bom custo-benefício, possibilitando quantificar e caracterizar moléculas, identificar compostos, avaliar ácidos graxos de biocombustíveis, rendimento de reações, dentro outros.
