This research seeks to understand how China has developed a center-periphery relationship with Latin America, especially with Brazil. The dissertation focuses on studying this process from 2001 to 2020. In this sense, the hypothesis that will be developed is: Brazil, as a country that has a more “advanced” industrial park within Latin American parameters, has the short-medium term consequence of the de-industrialization of the economy as a result of the Chinese presence on the continent. This happens because Chinese high-tech goods compete with Brazilian goods. This scenario presents a kind of vicious cycle where Brazil assumes the position of an exporter of agricultural and mineral commodities, supplying food and industrial inputs to the PRC, while consuming products of greater technological value. The topicality of the theme, the relevance of China and this new center-periphery relationship that it establishes with Latin America, in itself, justify the relevance of the research.
