The restorative materials have gone through a long change seeking to move towards playing with naturalness the dental tissues. The restorative process began with the use of amalgams, composite resins, arriving in bulk fill type resins. The direct restorative materials fulfill an important role in the history of dentistry aesthetics and functional. Each material has specific properties, modifying also restorative techniques. The optical properties of composite resins, conventional, give this material a feature quite favorable, as for example the effect of naturalness, when well used, for esthetic restorations on anterior teeth. The aim of this study was to conduct a review in the literature, about the optical properties of the composite resin. The optical properties present in restorative materials, allow you to play with a high degree of fidelity, the structures and dental tissues, requiring the surgeon dentist, high degree of knowledge and domain of the ideal technique to accomplish these natural-looking restorations.
