Resumo: In this work, I-Joist is presented, which is an engineered wood, more specifically, a wooden beam in an “I” profile, used in floor or roof structures, which provides some advantages when compared to other wooden profiles. It is common knowledge that wood is not widely used in the construction industry in Brazil, this is due to several factors, mainly cultural, as wood even today is still related to fragility and erroneous concepts. Therefore, the general objective of this work is to contribute to the study of wood in national civil construction. In other countries such as the United States, Canada and Sweden, wood has already gained its due protagonism, and this has led to innovations in the civil construction sector, with, for example, the emergence of engineered wood, which is wood processed industrially in order to optimize its performance for use in construction. Engineered wood has gained a lot of notoriety due to its benefits, so the specific objective of this work was to present the “I” profile in wood, highlighting the advantages of using such a profile when compared to the rectangular wood profile. To this end, a project for a residential townhouse with a Wood Frame structure was developed and, subsequently, the floor structure composed of I-Joists was designed. The sizing of the “I” profile highlighted its main advantage, which is the fact that it is an optimized profile, capable of covering large gaps and resisting high loads, even though it is a compact and light profile.

Sendo assim, o objetivo geral desse trabalho é contribuir com o estudo da madeira na construção civil nacional. Em outros países como Estados Unidos, Canadá e Suécia, a madeira já ganhou seu devido protagonismo, e isso acarretou inovações no ramo da construção civil, com por exemplo, o surgimento das madeiras engenheiradas, que são madeiras processadas industrialmente a fim de otimizar o seu desempenho para uso na construção civil. A madeira engenheirada ganhou bastante notoriedade devido seus benefícios, por isso o objetivo em específico desse trabalho foi apresentar o perfil “I” em madeira, destacando as vantagens de utilizar tal perfil quando comparado com o perfil retangular em madeira. Para isso, foi desenvolvido o projeto de um sobrado residencial com estrutura em Wood Frame e, posteriormente, realizado o dimensionamento da estrutura de piso composta por I-Joists.
