Resumo: | Flavonoids and tannins are secondary metabolites of the class of polyphenols constantly found in fruits, flowers, leaves and vegetables, to which anti-inflammatory activities are attributed. In many plant species of the Brazilian cerrado, these substances have already been identified, as in Annona crassiflora, known as Marolo or Araticum, whose fruit is widely consumed. However, there are no studies that have evaluated the anti-nematode potential of the aqueous extract of its leaves, although it is already widely used by natives of this biome in the treatment of various inflammatory disorders. For this investigation, the paw edema induced by intraplantar injection of carrageenin in animals from five previously treated groups with vehicle, indomethacin and extract at the concentration of 100 mg/kg, 550 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg, respectively, was evaluated. In addition, the activity of neutrophils, through the enzyme myeloperoxidase, and the histopathological changes in the plantar muscle of the animals were also evaluated. As a result, no reduction of carrageenin-induced paw edema was observed in the treated animals at the concentrations of 100 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg of the extract. However, at the concentration of 550 mg/kg, edema was reduced, but without statistical significance. Regarding the activity of the enzyme myeloperoxidase, it was not possible to identify the reduction of its activity in the groups treated with the different concentrations of the extract. It was concluded that the aqueous extract of the leaves of A. crassiflora, in an experimental model in vivo, did not present antiedematogenic effect. |
