Melanoma oral em Rottweiler - relato de caso

Melanoma is the main type of oral tumor in dogs. In general, melanocytic neoplasms of the oral cavity are more aggressive and have a shorter average survival than cutaneous melanocytic neoplasms. In dogs, neoplasms are a cause of death or reason for euthanasia and knowledge of the frequency, as well as the epidemiological characteristics, are important for the treatment and prophylaxis of tumors. Thus, this study aimed to report the case of oral melanoma in a Rottweiler dog. The dog presented a mass of approximately 8.0 cm on the soft palate with an irregular, firm, ulcerated and blackened surface and a similar lesion on the digit. The diagnosis of melanoma was attributed through cytological examination and the patient was submitted to electrochemotherapy using the drugs bleomycin and cisplatin. The follow-up of the case was carried out for nine months and, in the meantime, the dog received three sessions of electrochemotherapy, presenting lymph node and lung metastasis, despite the maintenance of feeding capacity and quality of life. Electrochemotherapy is an important cancer treatment modality and should be considered as an option for the treatment of canine oral melanoma in those cases where surgical treatment cannot be instituted.
