Resumo: | The literature is controversial about the influence of debris on tribological behavior. Some studies show that friction and wear are influenced by particle size. Already other studies have shown that the concentration of particles can lead to increased friction. This work aims to study the effect of the addition of iron oxide on wear by lubricated slip of a steel-steel pair. For this study, wear tests were carried out by alternating lubricated slip with addition of oxides Fe2O3 and Fe3O4, where the concentration of the oxides was varied by 1% and 10% by weight. The tests with the addition of Fe2O3 (smaller and harder particles) presented a variation of approximately 10% in the friction and of 291% in the rate of wear, of the concentration of 1% to that of 10%. Addition of Fe3O4 particles (larger and less hard particles) contributed to a drop in the wear rate of approximately 80% and 35% at concentrations of 1% and 10%, respectively. Suggesting that the relative hardness in relation to the bodies in contact was the determining factor for these results. |
