This thesis discusses the construction of the right to the city in small towns, having as area of study Ipiaçu, a small town in the microregion of Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais. Our interest lies in the particularities of the construction of this right within this socio-spatial context, considering that this concept concerns both the material improvements in the lives of the city dwellers, the possibility of participating, thinking and Jointly choosing the directions of the city, this being a collective and non-individual right. As expressed by David Harvey, it is the right to change ourselves by the change of the city, in an ongoing process, never finished. Thus, the right to the city should be approached from the perspective of construction and involves the transformation of material and symbolic aspects. The analysis of the construction of the right to the city in small cities is necessary since there are also infrastructural and social problems that, despite being different and in some cases less evident than those found in the metropolises, have Important rebeats in the daily lives of the city, who as well as residents in cities of other dimensions, deserve fairer and more equitable and equitable urban spaces. The analytical perspective of the research is centered on the urban daily life, a dimension capable of revealing contradictions and problems that, at first, could appear absent or seen as punctual, since small towns are generally held as quiet and harmonious spaces, which are not at the mercy of the urban problems characteristic of the current stage of the urbanization process. Thinking about this, the main objective of this work is to understand the specificities of the construction of the right to the city in Ipiaçu, through the analysis of its urban daily life, considering mainly its cultural and political aspects. For the construction of the reflections presented, a qualitative methodological path was delineated, based on bibliographical research, field observation research and semi-structured interviews with different city dweller. The analysis carried out leads us to conclude that the fact of being a small city does not potentialize the construction of the right to the city, since many obstacles were identified in the urban daily life of Ipiaçu, highlighting the prevalence of individualism, the lack of openness to cultural diversity, the little relevance of public spaces as insurgency spaces and the low political protagonism of the residents. Our argument is that this fact is justified, therefore, the small cities also participate and are influenced by the general process of urbanization, which has as one of its contemporary characteristics the diffusion of neoliberal rationality.
