Resumo: | Despite the recognition of an extensive range of voltage regulating devices available nowadays, the search for structural concepts composed of arrangements with simple features, competitive costs, lower maintenance requirements, among other aspects, still presents itself as a relevant topic. In this sense, there is a solution initially developed by researchers from the Federal University of Uberlandia that is called electromagnetic voltage regulator. This is composed of an autotransformer that supplies, via discrete tapes, a series unit responsible for regulating the voltage of the feeder where it is connected. In this way, the present work is focused on optimizing the power of the electromagnetic units of the regulator herein described. For this purpose, a change in the design of the original physical arrangement is proposed, which is mainly to reduce the power of the series electromagnetic unit. Once the modified arrangement is presented, the equivalent electrical model of the compensator is established in the frequency domain. In addition, the equations that represent its operation and electrical variables are developed. These equations are the basis for the design and construction of the device units. In order to clarify the effectiveness of the regulator, performance evaluation tests are carried out through modeling implemented in the MATLAB/Simulink software. By using this computational approach, in order to validate the effectiveness of the new design of the regulator, studies are performed by imposing different voltage variations on the supply network. Moreover, further investigations are performed in order to establish a prompt comparison between the electrical characteristics of the new compensator and the original device. The comparison highlights the advantages of the new design. Since one of the electromagnetic units has an operating mode different from conventional transformers, analyses involving finite element modeling for the series transformer are performed. Such investigations aim to identify the magnetic conditions imposed on its core and are the basis for designing future regulating units under the terms herein proposed. |
