The present research aimed to identify the main health problems affecting university teachers of brazilian higher education institutions, as well as to identify the interference of the work environment to the sickness of the professional under study. Initially, a systematic review was carried out to understand the national panorama of the health problems of university professors of higher education institutions, public and private, through a survey of the literature published in this respect, between the years 2000 and 2016. From the systematic review, it was decided to present the work of completing the master's degree in the perspective of the equivalent work model, constituting this study article 1, entitled - The precariousness of teaching work and the health of university professors: a review systematic. At the same time, a questionnaire was applied to university professors of a Brazilian Federal University, aiming to describe characteristics of the teaching career, sociodemographic, anthropometric, life habits and pathological antecedents, as well as to investigate the tendency towards the development of common mental disorders and the factors of work organization, potentially involved, thus producing article 2, through the results of this research, entitled - Prevalence and factors related to common mental disorders among university professors of a Brazilian Federal University, 2016.
