Resumo: The future of a dairy cattle production system depends on the creation of new replacement heirfers. To be efficient and competitive it is necessary to have good administration, control expenses, and optimize production. This study aimed to estimate the effective operational cost of dairy heifers from the Gloria experimental farm, located in the municipality of Uberlândia. The items with the highest participation in the cost of the production system were identified. The cost estimate was based on data collected from May 2021 to June 2022. The effective operational cost was calculated considering the best possible conditions, such as 100% pregnancy rate. The studied property had an effective operational cost of R$1,222.77 (R$16.30 per day) in pre-weaning and R$ 5,377.00 (R$ 7.03 per day) in post weaning. The total cost was R$ 6,599.77 (R$ 7.86 per day). The item with the greatest economic impact was food (86.36%) and in second place, labor (10.20%).

Este trabalho objetivou estimar o custo operacional efetivo de novilhas leiteiras da Fazenda Experimental do Gloria, situada no município de Uberlândia-MG. Foi feita a identificação dos itens de maior participação no custo do sistema produtivo. A estimativa do custo foi feita com base nos dados coletados de julho de 2021 a junho de 2022. O custo operacional efetivo foi calculado considerando as melhores condições possíveis, como cem por cento de taxa de prenhes. A propriedade estudada teve um custo operacional efetivo na fase de cria de R$ 1.222,77 (R$ 16,30 por dia) e na fase de recria de R$ 5.377,00 (R$ 7,03 por dia). O custo total foi de R$ 6.599,97 (R$ 7,86 por dia).
