Resumo: | The aim of this study was evaluate the efficacy and possible muscular alterations resulting from the use of the anthelmintic doramectina in horses. Twenty-two animals were used, and were divided into two groups, one group treated with an oral formulation and the other with the formulation for intramuscular application. The OPG test was performed before treatment, 14 and 28 days after treatment. Blood samples were collected before treatment, 6, 24 and 48 hours after treatment, to determine the sérum concentrations of the for the enzymes AST, FA, CK and LDH enzymes. In D + 14 and D + 28 there was a significant reduction of values OPG in the group treated by V.O, with efficacy rates of 99.2 and 98.5%, respectively. While the group treated by IM route showed efficacy of 48.2% (D+14) and 65.4% (D+28). Serum levels of AST and AF increased after treatment either by the oral or intramuscular route. CK and LDH had their serum levels reduced posttreatment in both groups. Doramectina promotes effective control of gastrointestinal nematodes of horses when administered orally. While the treatment by the IM route had insufficient efficacy. In the animals of the group treated with the IM aplication there were not observed, inflammatory reaction at the site of application, and a significant increase of the CK and LDH enzymes , showing no muscle lesions. The seric increase of the AST and AF enzymes in the two treatments suggests hepatic overload by the metabolism of doramectin. |

The seric increase of the AST and AF enzymes in the two treatments suggests hepatic overload by the metabolism of doramectin.
