Resumo: Currently, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of mortality in the world. Among all CVDs, the coronary artery disease (CAD) stands out, as it is the most common and the leading cause of death of them. CAD is characterized by insufficient blood supply to the cardiac cells due to the development of thrombi and atheromatous plaque in the coronary artery. The disease has a multifactorial characteristic, therefore, not only the environmental conditions can promote its development but also the genetic inheritance of the individual. This study aims to clarify, or at least in part, the influence of the T-786C gene on CAD manifestation. This polymorphism decreases the formation of nitric oxide (NO) in the cardiovascular system by altering the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) production. This study was performed in 124 individuals and the results indicated a significant association (p = 0.0105) and dependence (p = 0.0102) between the polymorphism in individuals with CAD in comparison to the control group. In addition, it was found a positive correlation between the development of the cardiovascular disease and the age advancing due to the cumulative characteristic of the pathology. Summing up, it is extremely important to detect early CAD pacients to define risk groups and provide a better approach in the prevention and treatment of the disease.

A doença possui um caráter multifatorial, sendo assim, não só as condições ambientais podem propiciar seu desenvolvimento, como também a herança genética do indivíduo. Este estudo contribui para elucidar, ao menos em parte, a influência do polimorfismo T-786C do gene da óxido nítrico sintase na manifestação da DAC. É sabido que a presença deste polimorfismo reduz a produção de óxido nítrico (NO) no sistema cardiovascular por alterar a atividade da óxido nítrico sintase endotelial (eNOS). Neste estudo foram estudados 124 indivíduos e os resultados indicaram associação significativa (p=0,0105) e dependência (p=0,0102) do polimorfismo em pacientes caso em relação aos pacientes controle. Além disso, encontrou-se uma correlação positiva entre o surgimento da doença cardiovascular e o avanço da faixa etária devido ao caráter cumulativo da patologia.
