This final project aims to analyze visual representations of black women in Brazil between the 19th and 20th centuries, determining on the basis of these representations, which the main categories in which these fall. Visual representations and categories that will be properly contextualised – culturally, socially and historically – in order to understand the ways in which the imaginary were built for the black women in Brazil throughout the ages (these imaginary still active in contemporary times). In this way, the raised and produced material (images, documents, analyses and discussions) will be used in educational practice propositions aiming to recast and redefine its meaning the visual representation of black women in Brazil, thus providing subsidies documentary and educational measures to combat racial prejudice and sexism in the country.
