This paper aims to point out how the feminist movement has influenced an important change in the way the world treats and relates to women and how there is still a long way to go in the search for equality. This is an essential discussion, as the subject needs to be present in our daily lives, and needs to be understood and respected by all people. The methodology used was a bibliographical research, through which it was possible to bring to the study the history of the feminist movement and the struggle for the female vote around the world, and as such an achievement influenced several countries, including Brazil. Focusing on Brazil, it will be presented how feminism gradually influenced Brazilian legislation, with the creation of laws specifically aimed at the welfare and safety of women. Finally, the difficulties that women still face, despite all the achievements already achieved, will be treated with current examples.
