Resumo: | The aim of this study was to evaluate the undergraduate students difficulties in emergency dental care at the Dental Emergency Service of the Hospital of Clinics of the Federal University of Uberlandia. (HC-FUU). To evaluate the difficulties, a self-administered questionnaire was applied to students from the 7th to the 10th period of the Dentistry course (n=132), in the year of 2017. The semi-structured questionnaire involved multiple-choice questions, using the Likert scale for the level of difficulty (very low, low, moderate, high and very high) considering the variables: dental extraction, restorative procedure, endodontic procedure, prescription and behavioral management). At the end of the questionnaire, an open question was included, allowing the student to report any other type of difficulty found during emergency dental care. It was showed that the students of the 7th period presented a higher degree of difficulty in performing all the procedures when compared to the other periods; in addition, it was verified that the endodontic procedures, dental extraction and trauma presented the highest degree of difficulty in all evaluated periods. The procedures that presented the greatest reduction in the degree of difficulty between the 7th and 10th periods were dental extraction (reduction of 1.6) and restorative dentistry (reduction of 1.8). The lack of help during the management/ attendance by the Professors had a high frequency in the students' report. It was concluded that there is a high degree of difficulty in performing pediatric emergency procedures by FUU students, that the degree of difficulty differs between the graduation periods and that the students' opinion/perception can contribute to the improvement of emergency education in Pediatric Dentistry. |
