This article’s central objective is to explore the existing impasse in the resolution of Western Sahara’s conflict and to analyze the maintenance of the current state of ocupation and exploitation of the region. Based on a retrieval of the territory’s colonial history, the intent is to investigate the factors that led to the usurpation of the region initially ocupied by Spain and, from 1975 onwards, by Morroco. From this point on, the aim is essentially to focus on the continuous confront in Western Sahara, emphasizing the maintenance of the conflict by observing the involvement of agents of the international system, especially the UN. Thus, the idea is to reflect about coloniality’s persistence in contemporaneity based on the decolonial theory and the case of Western Sahara. For this purpose, this research’s methodology will consist in bibliographical research and documental analysis of the selected sources’ contents, such as UN’s letters and declarations, UN’s Security Council’s meetings’ minutes and treaties signed by various countries.
