Resumo: Epidemiological studies have shown that the pathologies that affect the periodontium are the most common chronic diseases of the human being, affecting 5 to 30% of the adult population in the age group of 25 to 75 years. Non-surgical periodontal therapy is the first stage of the treatment and has proved to be effective for the control of gingival and peridontal diseases, eliminating etiological factors and preventing disease progression, restoring health and function to the patient. Non-surgical periodontal therapy includes instructions for oral hygiene, patient motivation, and scaling and root planing. This study aims to evaluate the outcome of non-surgical periodontal therapy in patients treated in the Periodontal Maintenance extension project, which takes place on Fridays at the Faculty of Dentistry of UFU.

A terapia periodontal não cirúrgica constitui a primeira etapa do tratamento e tem se mostrado eficaz para o controle das doenças gengivais e peridontais, eliminando os fatores etiológicos e impedindo a progressão da doença, reestabelecendo saúde, bem-estar e função ao paciente. A terapia periodontal não cirúrgica compreende instruções de higiene oral, motivação do paciente e raspagem, e alisamento radicular.
