The electrical or electrosurgical scalpel (BEC) is a medical assistance equipment (EMA) used in surgeries called electrosurgesis or diathermy. It can be used in practically all surgical specialties, and has the advantage of faster, more accurate incisions and greater ease in the removal of hypertrophic tissue. The purpose of this study was to analyze the maintenance of electrosurgical scalpels present at the Hospital de Clínicas de Uberlândia (HCU), obtaining the maintenance indicators to define improvement measures in this process. The indicators are: availability (DISP), time of repair (TMR) and mean time between failures (TMEF). Using these indicators, the aim was to propose solutions to improve the maintenance of these devices. For this, the software SisBiE (Bioengineering System) was used to collect data referring to the electric scalpel from its implementation in January 2014 until May 2019. Calculations were made of the indicators mentioned above, DISP, TMR and TMEF according to definitions of the literature and the practices already performed by the Bioengineering sector of the HCU. Our work showed that the HCU BECs have great availability within the establishment due to the competence of the bioengineering sector to catalog and carry out the maintenance process of the same. Except for a few exceptions, which were discussed and analyzed, the majority of the devices were available, up to the analyzed date, about 98% of the time.
