Resumo: This paper will study about rotary wing aircrafts, more specifically helicopters. It will be seen the history of this type of aircraft, a little about its aerodynamics and performance and how the performance equations affect in choosing the rotor type during design. For this historical researches on this type of aircraft were carried out, the performance equations were deduced which after, with the aid of data from famous helicopters that already are in the market, were put into practice. From the results of these equations the project analysis was done.
