Blood pressure (BP) is a significant vital sign that contemplates systemic or baseline changes. This verification cannot be omitted, because based on the values collected, the treatment of a disease is planned, others are prevented and actions are planned for the restoration of a healthy life condition. Given the magnitude that it denotes, the assessment in lower limbs deserves attention, because if the values obtained in this region are divergent from those considered normal, the healthcare professional can predict and prevent evolutions of potential pathological conditions. In this way, the work presents as basis to identify if the technique of BP measurement in lower limbs is known and performed in the hospital environment. The work is of quantitative-qualitative exploratory character, where the theoretical and practical knowledge of 30 professionals of the Clinical Hospital of the Federal University of Uberlândia of the medical clinic ward was evaluated, with 10 nurses, 10 physicians and 10 nursing technicians by means of the BP measurement procedure and through an adapted questionnaire. Both forms of evaluation contained theoretical and practical content. In the BP measurement procedure, nurses performed better in both theoretical and practical actions. In the questionnaire, nurses presented better performance in theoretical questions (50%) while physicians excelled in the practical ones (60%). Considering the results found, we observed that the professionals cannot perform satisfactorily the proposed procedure. Therefore, it is necessary to make updates with health professionals, since the training time associated with routine service may lead to the forgetting of some basic concepts.
