Nowadays, it is essential to understand the problems related to the runoff of stormwater in urban areas and, based on that, present optimized management strategies to address these challenges. In this regard, the Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) is a widely recognized and utilized computational tool for simulating the hydrological and hydraulic behavior of urban drainage systems. Using the SWMM, models were constructed to optimize the drainage design of a residential development located in the city of Uberlândia, taking into account parameters such as precipitation, infiltration, surface runoff, and characteristics of drainage system elements, such as catch basins, manholes, and conduits. Initially, a literature review was conducted on the topic, addressing concepts related to urban drainage, SWMM characteristics, and procedures for sizing drainage networks. Subsequently, the necessary data for modeling were collected, including topographic information, physical characteristics of the residential development, and rainfall data. Based on the simulations performed, results were obtained regarding flow velocity, water level in conduits, and the determination of appropriate conduit diameters for different points in the drainage network. These results were analyzed to evaluate the hydraulic performance of the proposed system. Finally, the sizing of the drainage network was carried out, considering the results obtained from the simulations and the current technical standards. Adjustments were made to conduit diameters, types of drainage structures, and manhole elevations, aiming to achieve an efficient system capable of meeting the demands of the residential development within the context of the city of Uberlândia, MG.
